Oasis National Student Awards 2017 – Generation Celebration

More than 700 children and young people from over forty Oasis academies across the UK converged at a special awards ceremony in Birmingham today, to celebrate outstanding individual achievements.

Rugby World Cup winner and England Star, Matt Dawson, hosted the Oasis Community Learning National Student Awards 2017 at the Birmingham ICC.

The awards celebrate the achievements of Oasis Community Learning’s young people who demonstrate exceptional character or competence, or are making exceptional contributions to their local communities.

The theme of this year’s awards was ‘Generation Celebration’ where pupils of all ages celebrate both their current achievements, and their hopes and aspirations for the future.

Steve Chalke MBE, Founder of Oasis, says: “Today was a wonderful celebration of what Oasis pupils and students all across the UK are achieving.  We have heard about some superb accomplishments, young people excelling in the classroom, in sports and serving their local communities.”

“All of those who attended the Awards today have an achievement to celebrate, and I hope that they will remember this day for many years to come.”

Sodexo, who provide catering services at 45 Oasis academies up and down the UK, were the event sponsor.

Matt Garner, Managing Director, Sodexo Schools said; “We’ve worked closely with Oasis since 2010, so were delighted to sponsor the awards this year, and glad that our Health Ambassador Matt Dawson could be part of the proceedings too. It was fantastic to see so many truly inspirational young people.”

“At Oasis we want all of our young people to develop the character, confidence, and competence to both fulfil their potential and make a difference to their local community,” added John Murphy, CEO of Oasis Community Learning.

“The National Student Awards always highlights that so many of our young people are already doing just that – they are striving

to become the best version of themselves, and making a hugely positive impact on their local community.  I would like to say to all those who were in Birmingham and those who could not join us in person, on behalf of the thousands of Oasis staff, we are inordinately proud of you and will always support you in fulfilling your potential.”
