Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a list of frequently asked questions about Oasis Community Learning and Academies in general.

If you cannot find an answer to your question within the website or on this page please submit your question using the submit function at the bottom of this page.

  • How is student education affected during the transition to an Academy?

The transition to a new Academy is planned carefully to ensure that all students continue to receive the highest quality of education without unnecessary disruption.  For example, we ensure that the timetable guarantees continuity of option choices for students preparing for GCSEs and other national examinations.

We also have an effective induction process into the new Academy for all our students and staff.

  • What happens to staff?

Regulations regarding TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) rights apply to staff employed at schools facing closure.  Staff in place immediately prior to the opening of an Academy would have the right to transfer to new positions within the Academy under existing terms and conditions.

In our experience, not all staff wish to transfer for a variety of reasons - some see the Academy process as a timely opportunity to advance their career in other directions.

  • How accountable is Oasis?

Oasis Community Learning has to go through a number of rigorous processes set by the DCSF, both before and after opening an Academy.  Each of our Academies has to pass a pre-Ofsted inspection before opening and are then inspected regularly in the same way as all other UK schools.

We are also held accountable by the Oasis Community Learning Board and Executive as well as each Academy Council.  If at any stage one or all of our Academies do not meet the criteria set by the DCSF, the Academies can be taken away from us as the sponsor.

  • How are Oasis Academies governed?

Oasis Community Learning is a single trust multi-Academy sponsor, meaning that it has a single Board of Directors which is ultimately responsible for the activities of all Oasis Academies.  On a day-to-day basis however, a central Executive Team oversees the family of Academies and works alongside each Principal on a National Forum Group.

At the same time, Oasis is committed to local ownership and decision making and each Academy has its own local governing body called an Academy Council.  The Academy Council is responsible for supporting the Principal and Academy Leadership Team as they plan the future development of the Academy and for representing the views of different parts of the Academy, parent/carer body and wider community.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
