Oasis Olympics

To celebrate the London 2012 Olympics, Oasis will be hosting their own Olympics event on 13th July 2012 which will see competitors from each Oasis Academy coming together to race and to celebrate the Oasis ethos as one family.

In the run up to the main event which will be held in Nottingham, each of the Oasis Academies are taking part in the Virtual Olympics. This consists of 3 fitness tests, which will take place over the next 2 terms which involve all students from Years 7 to 10 in our 12 secondary Academies as well as from the Oasis Global country bases!

On the 20th September, the Oasis Olympics Flag (our very own ‘Olympic torch’), started its journey around the country as it visits each Oasis Hub and Oasis Academy over the next 10 months before arriving at the Oasis Olympics main event on 13th July 2012!

As the flag is passed amongst the Academies it will help the students to reflect upon the values of friendship, respect, excellence, equality, courage, determination and inspiration. By inspiring creativity, the Oasis Olympics flag also will also give students the opportunity to engage in the Cultural Olympiad.

What makes the flags journey so significant is that the symbolic meaning of the Olympic torch (or flag) reflects our own Oasis ethos of inclusion and a commitment to building healthy relationships.
