Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Staff Networks

Everyone who works for Oasis has the opportunity to join one of our staff networks.

Break the Cycle Anti-Racism Network

The Break the Cycle anti-racism staff network was formed in response to the growing awareness of the systemic racism that exists both within society and education settings. Inclusion is a key component of Oasis’ Ethos and OCL wants to be a systems leader by proactively examining its culture, practices, and policies to combat racism within and build a more inclusive community for students and staff. The purpose of this network is to identify and prioritise the issues which affect OCL and the communities that we serve, and to incorporate these into our anti-racism strategy. The culture of the network is about highlighting these issues as well as proposing solutions; crafting energy into change. The network leads the conversation on anti-racism across OCL and create accountability for changes.

This group is open to all staff who have a passion for change. We need to hear voices from people in all parts of OCL. This is a dynamic conversation about the general direction of the organisation.

The 5 key strategic priorities of the group are as follows. The role of the network is about championing the following 5 Cs:

  • Conversation about the issues that need changing
  • Communication ‘upwards’ of staff views
  • Commitment to hold Oasis to account for the changes
  • Challenge to educate all staff about anti-oppressive practice
  • Curriculum that properly emboldens and reflects our commitment to inclusion and diversity

The Break the Cycle Anti-Racism Network is lead by Joseph Broadfield.

Gender Equality Network

The Gender Equality Network's vision for Oasis is that we become a world class flagship organisation, paving the way for all people of all genders to achieve their God-given potential. Through dialogue, listening to the experiences of others and self-evaluation, we will identify all barriers, or perceived barriers, to anyone based on their gender identity. This will extend to women of all backgrounds, faiths, sexuality and ability, those of alternative gender identities, and all men too, so that everyone can benefit from an institutional transformation.

Driven by the 9 Habits and the deep sense of hope that systems can be changed, Oasis and the communities that we serve will be empowered by gender parity and significant and sustainable change.

The lead for the Gender Equality Network is Gemma Bolton-Hale who believes that we all learn best as part of a group, and is committed to leading a network of associates that are passionate about gender equality.

LGBTQ+ Allies Staff Network

The Oasis LGBTQ+ and Allies Staff Network has been formed in response to a changing social climate and evolving LGBTQ+ legislation. As an organisation with a passion for inclusion, we are dedicated to creating a diverse and safe environment for everyone and we strive for all staff and students to be their authentic selves. As a network, we are sharing, listening and constantly working to create a culture and a curriculum that allows everyone to explore who they are and who they are becoming. This includes:

  • Creating a safe space for members to share their perspectives on OCL’s approach to LGBTQ+ issues and inclusion and to share their experiences
  • Addressing homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and a heteronormative bias in OCL so that Oasis becomes a beacon of inclusion.
  • Providing proactive guidance and support to enable OCL to be fully inclusive and supportive of all LGBTQ+ people

The LGBTQ+ and Allies Staff Network is lead by Evie Cryer.
