Celebrations as Oasis Academy Wintringham is ‘Good’ in all categories

Staff and students at Oasis Academy Wintringham are celebrating today following a glowing report from school inspectors Ofsted.  The Academy that was previously ‘Inadequate’ has jumped to ‘Good’ in all categories.

Following an inspection at the end of January, Ofsted have now published their report that commends the Academy’s effectiveness of leadership, the quality of teaching and learning, the pupils’ personal development and behaviour, and for outcomes for pupils.

The inspectors commented that:
•    “The principal and her leadership team have an uncompromising ambition for the school.  Their strong leadership has led to much better teaching, improved behaviour and more rapid progress for pupils.”
•    “Teaching is now good overall and the progress made by pupils has accelerated considerably over the last year, especially in key stage 4.”
•    “Behaviour both in lessons and about the school is good.  Pupils treat each other and adults with respect.”
•    “Careers education and guidance is a strength of the school.  As a result, the vast majority of pupils leaving the school go on to positive destinations.”

A theme that resounds throughout Ofsted’s findings is the Academy’s high ambition for, and expectations of, every student.  Principal Heidi Stennett ‘inspires and empowers her staff and pupils to realise their potential and she has high expectations of all members of the school community’, like senior leaders ‘middle leaders are ambitious for their pupils and show no complacency’ while Academy Councillors are ‘very ambitious for pupils and staff.’

Inspectors were impressed with the improvements they observed in teaching and learning.  The Academy’s leadership have focused on developing teachers’ professional development, and because of the better teaching ‘the progress pupils make has accelerated.’  There is praise for teachers’ new classroom routines and pupils’ improved attitudes to learning, and the staff themselves explained to Ofsted that they value the opportunities to improve their skills.

Everyone at the Academy has recognised the benefits that the changes have brought.  The children ‘are proud of their school and the opportunities it provides for them.  They recognise and appreciate the improvements they have seen over the last few years in school.’ Staff meanwhile ‘have valued the opportunities to improve their skills,’ and ‘the improvements the school has made are clearly the result of a team effort.’

The multi-academy trust responsible for the Academy, Oasis Community Learning, are also praised for holding the school to account, and sharing best practice “Oasis Community Learning provides highly effective support and challenge to the school.  Leaders benefit greatly from their contact with trust staff and the strong links with other schools in the Trust.”

Principal of Oasis Academy Wintringham, Heidi Stennett, says: “The whole of the Oasis Academy Wintringham community are delighted with Ofsted’s ‘Good’ in all categories judgement.  It is external confirmation of what all at the school have known for a while now, that together we are making rapid progress and creating a great school that our students so richly deserve.”

“I am so grateful to the Governors, staff, students and parents who have supported us over these last couple of years.  Their support and dedication, and willingness to embrace change, are the foundations for the improvements we have achieved.  Ofsted were 100% correct when they said that the transformation is clearly the result of a team effort.”

Oasis’s Regional Director for the North, Rachel Jones, says: “This is a fantastic report from Ofsted, and is everything that Heidi and her team deserve after the excellent progress they have made.”

“The Academy is on a journey of swift and sustainable improvement, and I am confident that the plans that Heidi has in place means that the progress and attainment levels will continue to climb.  The wider Oasis family of academies is extremely proud of what Oasis Academy Wintringham has achieved.”
