Aspiration – a hope or ambition of achieving something. Pupils at a local primary school in the heart of Oldham learnt about further education, potential future careers, and the world of work from the Mayor of Oldham.
Pupils at Oasis Academy Clarksfield in Oldham welcomed a number of special visitors into the Academy for aspirations week including; Moinul Islam, and award-winning author of Anisha’s Adventure who inspired pupils with a love of reading.
The Mayor of Oldham visited pupils delivered an exciting, fun-filled workshop about the different career options available to them in the future and about his role as Mayor of Oldham.
There were many other visitors to the Academy including; Debbie, Abrahams (MP for East Oldham and Saddleworth), Councillor Ginny Alexander and the Mayor’s Consort, Adrian Alexander, Computing Reddy, KH Flooring, the award-winning author of Anisha’s Adventures and Galliford Try Construction. They delivered short presentations the children, explaining their job roles, and also discussed the various options that await the children in the world of work.
Angela Sweeting, Executive Principal of Oasis Academy Clarksfield, commented saying; “Aspirations week was simply fantastic, the pupils are still discussing what they wish to do when they leave further education in years to come.”
“We are committed to ensuring all pupils, no matter their background, have access to the opportunities and skills needed to fulfil and maximise their full potential.”
Towards the end of an exciting week, a number of pupils visited the MAHDLO Centre, which is a registered charity and state-of-the-art Youth Zone in the heart of Oldham for 8-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with a disability). Open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year offering a range of exciting range of activities and opportunities that all young people from across Oldham can access.
A number of other pupils also got to take part in Oldham’s School Linking Project which co-ordinates and support schools in their participation in activities which provide meaningful interaction between children from diverse communities.
