Pupils, staff, and parents at Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior in Birmingham are celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award sponsored by the Football Association (FA).
Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior, situated in Garretts Green, Birmingham received some great news after receiving an email saying that had been shortlisted for the Youth Sports Award 2019.
The Youth Sport Trust are a national children’s charity passionate about creating a future where every child enjoys the life-changing benefits that come from play and sport. The Youth Sport Trust are on a mission to pioneer new ways of using sport to improve children’s wellbeing and give them a brighter future.
At the event, pupils and staff will hear from the inspirational Ben Smith, a Youth Sport Trust Ambassador, who in March 2020 will be travelling to the USA to run a marathon in each of the 50 US Capitals, cycling between each and aiming to complete the 18,500 mile journey in just 104 days, and aims to raise a staggering £1 million for the 401 Foundation and the Youth Sport Trust.
This exciting news comes days after Executive Principal, Clare Hoods-Truman received a letter from Damian Hinds, Secretary of State for Education and Nick Gibb, Minister State for School Standards thanking the Principal and staff for their hard work. In the letter it reads;
“Your school’s results, as published on 13th December, show progress scores of 5.9, 3.9 and 5.3 in English reading, writing and mathematics respectively. This means that in terms of the progress your pupils make between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2, Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior is amongst the top 3% of schools in England.”
Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior is striving for success as they were ranked 2nd in Birmingham for reading, 3rd for maths and 4th for reading.
Clare Hoods-Truman, Executive Principal of Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior, commented on the Academy’s success saying; “We have been on a transformational journey and our successes have been through the passion and commitment of my team. I am proud of our innovative approach to the curriculum and the dedication the staff and children show at Blakenhale to challenge themselves in every aspect of school life.”
The letter added; “We want to equip every child with the fluency in reading, writing and mathematics necessary to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and Oasis Academy Blakenhale Junior has provided this”.
