Staff, parents and pupils at a primary school in Scunthorpe are celebrating today after receiving an overwhelmingly positive report from the school inspectors Ofsted.
Last month inspectors completed a visit to Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue, and in a letter to Principal Cath Lloyd declared it “Good” in all areas.
Ofsted praised the Academy for its strong emphasis on high aspirations, good behaviour and providing a broad curriculum. Highlights in the report include:
“The Principal and leadership team have created a culture that demonstrates high aspirations for your pupils.”
“From the moment pupil’s start the school day to the moment they leave for home, your pupils are well cared for.”
“The proportion of children reaching a good level of development by the end of the early years has increased.”
Inspectors credited Principal Cath Lloyd and the Academy’s leadership team for the ongoing good quality of education in the school since the last inspection in 2014.
They were particularly impressed by the good systems in place to help identify those pupils who may need additional support, and that the plans for pupils with SEND that ensure that the support is well matched to their required needs. The result is that they make great progress.
Pupils are also keen to contribute to discussions and support one another well in lessons and around the school. A group of pupils across a number of age groups have been given ‘Children’s champions’ roles to help adults to maintain the good behaviour staff and parents expect.
Parents have great confidence in the Academy and are pleased at how staff serve and care for the students. A survey of parents said their child is happy and safe – one parent said “The children are happy, valued and cared for well.”
Cath Lloyd, Principal of Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue, commented on the report saying; “We are delighted that Ofsted have recognised the hard work and dedication of all our children, families and staff. I am so proud, this has been a fantastic team achievement.
“I am confident that Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Lynne Goodhand, Regional Director of North East Primary Academies at Oasis Community Learning adds; “The fantastic Ofsted report reflects the dedication of the Principal all the staff at Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue. This is a highly inclusive academy where every pupil is supported to do their very best.”
