Memories of religious education may conjure up images of quiet classrooms and old-fashioned textbooks, but students at a local Southampton secondary school have been enjoying RE lessons with a difference.
Students at Oasis Academy Mayfield in the heart of Southampton have had a visit from GSUS Live, an interactive learning experience that visits secondary schools around the country, delivering religious education sessions in specially designed trailers featuring all the latest tech.
The full-size mobile classroom gives students the chance to experience the innovative and engaging classes, considering complex issues from a Christian perspective.
Paul Woodman, Director of Ethos at Oasis Academy Mayfield, said; “Students have loved this RE experience, linking famous historical characters’ stories to everyday life. Issues of fear, rejection and forgiveness were looked at and discussed. We are thankful to Counties UK for bringing this incredible experience to us at Mayfield."
Since 2000, GSUS Live has visited over 800 secondary schools across the UK helping pupils explore the themes of fear, forgiveness and rejection through the teachings of Jesus. The interactive learning experience uses Bible story animations, contemporary Christian music plus short films on historical and famous figures.
The innovative lessons have been developed by Counties along with education specialist, to encourage students to question, challenge and form their own opinions on the teachings of Jesus.
