Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Oasis Academy Ryelands achieves Centre of Excellence Status

Oasis Academy Ryelands situated in the heart of Croydon are celebrating this week, after they received the news that they had been awarded the Centre of Excellence Status by IQM.

An all-inclusive nursery and primary Academy located on Oakley Road, London is being described as a “calm and attractive school”, and was praised for its inclusive ethos and each and every child being valued.

The Academy was granted the IQM Inclusive School Award in May, joining a cluster of schools in Croydon to hold the title.

The Inclusion Quality Mark Award provides UK schools with a nationally recognised validation of their inclusive practice and ongoing commitment to developing educational inclusion.

Glenn Lillo, Principal of Oasis Academy Ryelands, commented on the recognition, saying; “This achievement recognises the continued commitment and dedication of all Academy staff and parents.”

“They go above and beyond to ensure that every child succeeds and that we provide exceptional education at the heart of the community.”

The Academy is a hive of activity. Oasis Academy Ryelands is a Rights Respecting school, some pupils are Eco Warriors. There are Junior Travel Ambassadors, Digital Leaders and a Pupil Parliament. Older children have attended debates with other schools discussing important issues from INTERNET safety to children performing in televised talent shows.

Within the report, inspectors praised the staff, saying “This is a school where children are valued.” And “The classrooms are bright and attractive.”

Lead assessor, Ralph Silverman confirmed his findings in the report, saying “I am of the opinion that the school fully meets the standard required by the Inclusion Quality Mark. It would be mutually beneficial if Oasis Ryelands became a Centre of Excellence and shared their practice with others at Cluster Meetings.”

Louise Lee, Regional Director for London at Oasis Community Learning, added; “I am delighted that Oasis Academy Ryelands has achieved this recognition for the outstanding work it does within the community.”

“The Academy encourages and promoted an ethos of inclusivity and I’m very proud of the staff team that have worked so hard to achieve this award.”
