Parents and students at a local primary academy in Sheffield were invited to attend an open afternoon as part of a joint venture project with Colin Harvard’s Page Hall Partners.
Oasis Academy Fir Vale, Sheffield held an open afternoon on Wednesday 14th November starting from 2.45 and coming to a close at 4.00pm.
More than fifteen local community groups paid a visit to the academy to share information, give advice and offer support to the families of the academy.
Agnieszka Freeman, Teacher at Oasis Academy Fir Vale commented on the event saying; “At Oasis Academy Fir Vale we believe that family engagement makes a difference to a child’s education and we continue working together to help our families in order to give our children the best possible future!”
Parents had the opportunity to talk to a number of these community groups, including; the local policing team, health visitors, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, as well as signing up for a number of course at the local advice centres.
Many parents who visited were signposted to the local library and were able to access advice on housing and recycling.
Colin Harvard who attended the event, commented saying; “This was a unique opportunity for different services to reach parents so it was great to see so many parents there. I hope this is the first of many similar activities.”
