Saqib Chaudhri, Associate Principal at Oasis Academy Shirley Park said; "As someone who grew up in Croydon and who attended an underperforming Croydon school in the mid 90s, I am very proud to be part of a delegation that puts Croydon education at the heart of its agenda. I hope through this initial interaction between our cities, we can pave the way to opening new horizons for the young people of Croydon and Xi'an and prepare them for the interconnected world of tomorrow.

Importance of Relationships

The Madam Mayor was introduced to such visits to China and is keen to take such opportunity to promote Croydon and to explore the cooperation and exchanges between Croydon and the cities in China.

This is a very educational focused trip, with three school leaders from Oasis Community Learning on board.

With past visits arranged by Orpington Education, such visits will open up a door of great opportunities for schools in both countries to enhance their international links and to promote student exchange visits which will benefit students from both countries greatly. Further education cooperation is also possible once the partnership is established.

First of Many

Orpington Education, the organisers of the trip believe this will be the first of many to come for Croydon with ever stronger trade, business and educational links with China. Croydon is one of the first London Boroughs to lead such official visits and exchanges with the cities in China. This visit to open the door for further cooperation for Croydon and the schools in Croydon and expect to see more and more exchange visits from both sides in the very near future.
