Oasis Academy Short Heath’s Girls’ Football Team met with Birmingham City Ladies’ Jess Carter after winning the Erdington League at the first time of asking, winning nine and drawing one.
Jess Carter, the Professional Footballers’ Association Women’s Young Player of the Year in 2017, spoke with the girls about her journey to a career playing football for Birmingham City Ladies as a defender/midfielder. Afterwards Jess took the girl for drills, a game and a penalty shootout as part of a special training session.
The sponsor of the Women’s PFA Young Player of the Year, Sodexo UK and Ireland made the visit possible.
Oasis Academy Short Heath PE Co-ordinator, Chris George says: “The girls have been superb all season - not only have they displayed their excellent ability, but they showed great teamwork and a determination of spirit in every game.”
“We were thrilled to welcome Jess Carter to the Academy as reward, and the girls had a great time meeting and training with a footballer who they so admire.”
Matt Garner, Managing Director, Schools by Sodexo said “We’re delighted to bring Jess Carter to Oasis Academy Short Heath through Sodexo’s sponsorship of the PFA Young Player of the Year award. As a foodservice provider serving thousands of school meals every day, we have an integral role to play in young people living a full, active and healthy life.”
Oasis Academy Principal, Michelle Lee says: “We are very grateful to Jess for taking the time out to visit the girls and to Sodexo for making it possible.”
“At Oasis Academy Short Heath we always strive to give our pupils opportunities to raise their aspirations, and inspire them in their interests.
