Accelerating progress - Oasis Academy Ryelands achieves National Quality Mark for English & Maths

An award winning London primary school situated in the heart of Croydon and dedicated to providing exceptional education at the heart of the community, has achieved the National Quality Mark for English and mathematics.

Accelerating progress – Oasis Academy Ryelands, a two form entry co-educational primary school has been awarded Tribal’s Quality Mark following an appraisal report from an experience educational assessor. The report says; “The new curriculum is already a significant strength at Ryelands and as it embeds should raise standards further. Over the last year teachers re-wrote the curriculum to ensure a systematic coverage of the required content and skills.”

Tribal’s Quality Mark recognises improving standards in the provision, practice and performance of English and mathematics; supporting a schools Ofsted preparations; and providing evidence of the high-quality education a school provides. The award is valid for three years.

In a report addressed to Principal Glenn Lillo, and Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning Samantha Francis, they praised the academy for having a clear school progression strategy through a robust scheme of work and online platform to improve performance in English and mathematics, and despite the impact of the pandemic, the partnership with parents remains strong.

Highlights from the report include;

• “During the current lockdown parents are gaining a deeper insight into what their children are learning through the daily virtual English and Mathematics lessons, where they can see teachers modelling a range of skills.”
• “Over the last year teachers re-wrote the curriculum to ensure a systematic coverage of the required content and skills.”
• “With the roll out of remote learning in January all staff have fully embraced this new approach and have supported one another extremely well.”

Glenn Lillo, Principal at Oasis Academy Ryelands, commented on the accreditation saying; “We are absolutely thrilled to receive Tribal’s Quality Mark, which is a testament to the hard work, commitment, and passion of all the staff at the academy.”

The report also praises staff at school who have; “rung every pupil each week to check on their wellbeing, to discuss the remote learning via Purple Mash, to talk about what they are enjoying and what they want to improve and to celebrate their successes.”

Samantha Francis, Assistant Principal of Teaching & Learning at Oasis Academy Ryelands, added; “At Oasis Academy Ryelands, we are committed to ensuring all pupils, no matter their background, have access to the opportunities and skills needed to fulfil and maximise their potential.”

Assessor from Tribal, added; “At Ryelands teachers and support staff provide high quality learning opportunities for their pupils and are very well informed about effective practice in the teaching of reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers have adapted their practice very well to deliver lessons remotely.”

“Ryelands fully meets all ten QM elements and was able to demonstrate significant progress since the initial assessment visit in 2019.”
