Congratulations are in order for one of Oasis Academy Fir Vale’s staff members, as they celebrate her receiving Sheffield Hallam University’s 2021/22 Inspirational Mentors Award!

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is a public research university in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and one of the UK's largest and most diverse universities. The university’s Inspirational Mentors Award (2021/22) aims to recognise the outstanding work carried out by an individual who has made continuous positive and transformative differences in or outside of the classroom.

Year 6 Teacher at Oasis Academy Fir Vale, Koumal Saeed said: “I am honoured to be awarded with the 21/22 Inspirational Mentor Award. Mentoring trainee teachers empowered me to share the knowledge and skills I have learnt over the years. Mentoring increased my self-awareness and enabled me to refine my own teaching style.

As well as gaining strong communication skills, by listening to my trainees I have been able to understand the struggles they may be facing at the beginning of their teaching career.”

Helen Round, Principal at Oasis Academy Fir Vale said: "I am incredibly proud of Koumal and thrilled to learn of her superb achievements. Koumal has supported many of her colleagues, continues to dedicate her passion for teaching and is overall is a credit to the team at Oasis Academy Fir Vale.”
