A kind-hearted thirteen-year-old girl from a local Grimsby secondary school is days away from having her hair cut off by a local hairdresser once the lockdown eases for charity.

Ruby Robinson, a student from Oasis Academy Wintringham will have an incredible 25 centimetres (10 inches) chopped off from her locks before Wednesday 22nd July 2020.

Ruby will be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss, but she needs your help. Ruby has a goal of raising £750. You can donate via her JustGiving page HERE.

Caroline Robinson, Ruby’s mum, commented on her donation saying; “She is very thoughtful, Ruby has done it all independently and she has arranged this all herself. Since 12 years old she has had the idea of wanting to donate her hair and now the time has come, it is a lovely gesture and I am very proud of her.”

Ruby has been a student at Oasis Academy Wintringham since 2018 and she has always had long beautiful locks, one teacher said. When Ruby has her hair cut she will walk out with a one all over.

Ruby Robinson, added; “I’m not sure what made me want to donate my hair, it’s a really nice thing to do, and I just wanted to do it, as it’s all going to an amazing cause.”

“I don’t mind the hair coming off, I am looking forward to seeing it being put to use at the Little Princess Trust. My hair will grow back, and I hope the 10 inches that are coming off will help one person with a new wig.”

The Little Princess Trust use hair donations and fundraising monies sent to them by their amazing supporters (just like Ruby), to manufacture and fit their real hair wigs. Established in 2006, they have supplied over 8000 wigs to children and young people and invested circa £5 million into ground-breaking childhood cancer research.

Kirsty Smith, Teacher of Science and Head of Year 8 at Oasis Academy Wintringham, commented on Ruby’s kind-hearted gesture saying; “I am unbelievably proud of Ruby, she organised everything herself and has already raised nearly £200! What a lovely, selfless thing to do for someone else. Not only raising money, but providing the hair that will be made into a wig for a person who has lost their own. It is a truly incredible act for someone so young herself. I couldn’t be prouder!”
