The weather may have been a little chilly but it did not dampen spirits at the opening of the Oasis Hub Short Heath at Oasis Academy Short Heath.

Thanks to the generosity of a number of companies and local support, Oasis Academy Short Heath now have a fantastic ‘Hub’ that will be able to provide community space for local residents.

After consultations with the local community, various groups will be run from the hub such as employment support, debt advice services, supporting families with additional needs, adult learning and many more. In addition, rooms will be available for local community groups and business to hire out.

The centre was opened on the 13th December at a special event for the local community, Dave Parr, CEO of Oasis Community Partnerships spoke about how the Hub model and how the idea had grown. The future plan for the hub is to expose it to the wider community through various activities.

Dave Parr, CEO of Oasis Community Partnerships said: “Across the country Oasis Community Partnerships offers a wide-variety of bespoke services for the communities that we are privileged to serve. Our work is only possible thanks to the generosity of others. We are excited to move in and get started – this community work will benefit thousands of local residents for many years to come.”

The launch of the Hub has been planned since September 2019 and they were waiting for the finishing key touches to enable them to launch. A number of other Oasis Academies in the area also attended to show their support, including; Oasis Academy Blakenhale, Foundry, and Hobmoor.

Pam Atwal, Hub Leader at Oasis Hub Short Heath, added; “Today is a fantastic celebration! Having members of the community and different organisations coming together to open the Hub House has been so overwhelming it just goes to show how powerful we can be as a team.”

“The Hub vision means we can work with the Oasis Charity nationally, to fulfil the Oasis Academy Short Heath vision to bring exceptional support to the heart of the community and enable services and opportunities crucial to this development. We cannot wait to see the facilities busy with people.”
