Oasis Academy Putney officially opened a new sensory space in early February 2023 and welcomed Steve Chalke, Jill Rowe, Adam Browne, and representatives of the school’s PTFA.

Steve Chalke formally inaugurated the new sensory space at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiled a special plaque commemorating the event. OA Putney’s Principal Glenn Lillo, Head of School Rebecca Hughes, and Head of Inclusion and DSL Samiya Khawaja gave our visitors a guided tour of the academy where our students met and spoke with Steve and Jill. Steve and Jill held an all-school assembly talking about Oasis and our pupils beautifully sang the ‘9 Habits’ academy song.

Principal Glenn Lillo commented on the occasion: "We are absolutely delighted to have opened a brand-new sensory room for our pupils. The sensory room is an excellent addition to the school and is designed to provide opportunities for pupils with additional needs."

OA Putney's Year 6 pupils hosted Steve and Jill in a Q&A session where they asked a range of excellent and insightful questions. We are so proud of our pupils, who were highly praised for how articulate, polite, and inquisitive they were, and both Steve and Jill thought the children were incredible. Some of the questions they asked were:

• What is your favourite thing about your job?

• What inspired you to set up Oasis?

• What's your favourite habit out of the Oasis 9 habits?

• Which habit do you find most difficult to follow?

• Why did you pick the name Oasis?

Oasis Academy Putney’s sensory room provides a place to rest and relax. It was built with funds from the Oasis Academy Putney PTFA, which funded more than a third of the cost. Pupils will use the sensory room on an ongoing basis.
