Congratulations are in order for Oasis Academy Coulsdon as they celebrate their recent ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted! This achievement highlights the dedication, hard work, and collaborative spirit of the entire academy community.

The two-day inspection which took place between the 19th and 20th of March, provided a comprehensive evaluation of what it’s like to be a part of the academy. Inspectors were particularly impressed with the positive atmosphere at the academy, as the report mentions the school is described as ‘being like a family,’ by many.

Here are some highlights from the rest of the report:

·         ‘Pupils benefit from a carefully considered curriculum that is broad and balanced. The school’s curricular thinking helps to build a rich mental framework for pupils.’

·         ‘The school has high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Lessons proceed without disruption. The school is calm and orderly.’

·         ‘Staff are proud to work at the school. They value leaders’ support for their workload and well-being. Leaders at all levels are committed to the school’s continuous improvement.’

·         ‘Reading is a key priority at the school. Pupils read fluently and with confidence. Younger pupils are supported to develop reading through a structured phonics programme.’

·         ‘The school provides many opportunities for pupils to develop their talent and interests. Pupils can work towards the school ‘Personal Development Award.’ They can attend many clubs… Pupils contribute to the student newspaper and enjoy taking part in annual school music production.’

·         ‘Every year, older pupils undertake a charity project, participate in a public speaking competition and visit a local university as part of their careers education.’

The overwhelmingly positive report also mentions the efforts in which staff are successfully able to identify and meet the needs of pupils with SEND needs, both in lessons and in the academy’s ‘O Zone’ resource provision. Inspectors noted that as a result, pupils with SEND achieve well in the academy.

Oasis Academy Coulsdon were also praised in this report for their work on teaching pupils about other faiths and beliefs. The academy hosts an annual ‘cultural day,’ organised by the students themselves to celebrate the diversity of the academy community.

Upon reflection, Principal Catrin Green said: “We are delighted with outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. Not only is this testament to the hard work of our fantastic team of staff, but it is a true reflection of what an amazing place our students and staff make this school and why it is such a special place to be a part of."
