Good tidings we bring… a large number of Christmas cards that have been hand created by students from a Salford secondary school have been specially delivered to eight care homes this Christmas to spread joy and cheer.

Year 7 and 8 students from Oasis Academy MediaCityUK have created a phenomenal 341 Christmas cards as part of a project to bring Christmas cheer to care home residents and staff in Salford this December.

Students have written cards each with a personalised Christmas message addressed to residents to help them feel a little festive after months of isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The homes who recently received a special delivery of their cards before the end of term are; Mount Carmel Court, The Willows Care Home, Laburnum Court Care Home, Edward Onyon Court, Pendleton Court Care Home, Hope Manor Residential Home, Abbey Grove, and Abbeydale.

Hannah Miller, Hub Leader at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, said; “We know that COVID has left many elderly residents without visitors and feeling cut off from their community. At Oasis Hub MediaCityUK we wanted to do something to make them feel remembered and to know they are a treasured part of our Salford community.”

“The students have loved coming to the hub and getting creative and festive whilst doing something to spread joy to those who need it most this Christmas.”

The hub wanted to do something for the wider community that involved as many academy students as possible, whilst being COVID safe.

Kayden a Year 7 Student at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, added; “I really enjoyed visiting the hub and making a Christmas card for someone who is feeling lonely. I feel really happy knowing that I have cheered them up.”

The Oasis Hub MediaCityUK has also pledged to provide 24 hampers to some of their vulnerable families this Christmas, containing the usual staple food provisions, and festive treats like chocolates and mince pies.
