A Manchester secondary school is looking to spread as much Christmas cheer as possible, in partnership with their local Hub.

Oasis Academy MediaCityUK recently took Year 7 and Year 8 students to Oasis Hub MediaCityUK to handmake Christmas cards which will be sent to the elderly across Salford, many of which have made ‘beautiful creations’.

Christmas this year isn’t going to be the same for many families, 2020 has been a difficult year for millions and COVID have affected everyone in some way or another.

The Oasis Hub MediaCityUK has pledged to provide 24 hampers to some of their vulnerable families this Christmas, containing the usual staple food provisions, and festive treats like chocolates and mince pies.

Academy students have also made Christmas Eve boxes and baked biscuits which will be included in the festive hampers.

Hannah Miller, Hub Leader at Oasis Hub MediaCityUK, commented saying; “It’s not right that anyone goes hungry at any time of year, let alone Christmas. That’s why our team of volunteers are aiming to make 24 hampers.”

“The hampers will contain staples and basics to tide people over the holiday as well as some seasonal treats and gifts. Local businesses, food charities, supermarkets, churches clubs and local authorities are all joining in.”

The Oasis group has joined a nationwide Crowdfunder-led campaign which is backing over 50 food banks and pantries to ensure no one goes hungry this Christmas. So far, the Crowdfunder campaign has raised over £500k from over 5,000 supporters.

Alongside the Oasis charity, other anti-food poverty charities, FareShare and The Trussell Trust, are also taking part.

If you would like to contribute to this inspiring campaign, you can find the Oasis Hub MediaCityUK Crowdfunder page here.
