Oasis Academy Oldham has been celebrated in recent regional media coverage for its pioneering work in helping boys explore positive and healthy models of masculinity. The feature highlighted how the Academy is “reshaping what it means to be a man in the 21st century” through a thoughtful, research‑informed approach to character development and wellbeing.

Working with specialist partners, the Academy delivers progressive masculinity workshops that challenge stereotypes, build emotional literacy and provide a safe, supportive space for boys to reflect on identity, relationships and the pressures of the digital world. Through open discussions, practical activities and guided reflection, pupils are strengthening their empathy, communication and confidence.

Creating space for boys to talk openly

Staff say the sessions have been transformative.
Mr Mason said:
“Boys are more willing to open up about topics often left unspoken - from mental health and friendship to consent, communication, and identity.”

Positive feedback from pupils

Feedback from pupils has been “overwhelmingly positive”, with many boys saying the sessions give them a rare opportunity to talk honestly about the pressures they face, the expectations placed on them, and the kind of men they want to become.
