Staff at Oasis Academy Oldham turned to their wardrobes to dress in their brightest and most colourful clothes to celebrate the final few days of Pride month by wearing rainbow themed clothing.

Over the course of the month of June, staff and students acknowledged the issue of equality and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community in a variety of different ways.

Students were given a special assembly and PSHE lessons discussing the importance of respect for all people and their individual rights.

Around the academy, there were various different LGBTQ+ flags hanging decorated in social space areas as well as corridors and classrooms, and children enjoyed a rainbow cake sale and keyring making activities.

Mrs Gemma Bolton-Hale, the PSHE curriculum lead, said: "As part of our broad and balanced character curriculum, we take every opportunity for our students to learn about the world around them and celebrate the diversity within it.

"We believe strongly in educating our children for life, and one way we do this is to embed values of equality for all people of all backgrounds, and Pride month is one great and fun way to do this."

Ms Marie Dillon, Principal of Oasis Academy Oldham agreed, she said: "Oasis Community Learning was built on the foundations of the principle of inclusion, so it goes without saying that when it comes to Pride month, we delight in celebrating it.

"I have been wearing my pride wristband all month to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community."

The profit of the cake sales were donated to the Oasis Hub foodbank that serves the local community, which the staff and students felt was another great outcome of the Pride events.
