Oasis Academy Silvertown receives Civic Trust Award
Last Friday marked a momentous occasion as the Civic Trust Awards ceremony celebrated the brilliant achievements of Rivington Street Studio Architects and Oasis Academy Silvertown, who proudly announce receiving the ‘Highly Commended’ Award for the innovative design of the academy, on North Woolwich Road, Newham.
Principal of Oasis Academy Silvertown, Areyauna Firouz, attended the awards ceremony and was joined by Liz Bickerstaffe, Head of Strategic Projects at Oasis Community Learning, as well as David Tucker and Katharine Hubbard, from Rivington Street Studio Architects, who designed the academy building.
Reflecting on the transformative impact of Oasis Academy Silvertown’s new building, the judges described it as an architectural marvel. They said: “Oasis Academy is an extremely civic and sculptural school building providing adaptable, well-designed, and flexible education space in the heart of Silvertown. It has the capacity to become an important centre for the local community.”
Having begun in temporary accommodation, the school community is now thriving in its new home. The new five-storey building has state-of-the art facilities including library and resource centre, sports hall, rooftop playground, drama studio and food and design technology spaces.
The double-height colonnade reception area is the centre piece of the new building, with artwork and social areas across all levels helping to create a shared space at the heart of the school.
Principal of Oasis Academy Silvertown, Areyauna Firouz reflects on this achievement with pride: “We are delighted to be in this beautiful building, which offers state-of-the-art facilities that are transforming our students’ learning experience.”
“We are also incredibly happy that Rivington Street Studio’s work has been deservedly recognised, and it is with immense joy, alongside the dedicated staff at the academy, inspiring students, and the architects whose vision has come to fruition, that we are delighted with this award.”
Liz Bickerstaffe also commented, highlighting the inspiring partnership with Rivington Street Studio: “Our collaboration with Rivington Street Studio’s team has been enriched by our shared passion for exceptional education. Not only has their attention to detail shaped our building, it has also shaped a vibrant hub of learning and community engagement.”
