Oasis Academy Warndon is celebrating after achieving the ‘Investors in Diversity Silver for Schools’ award for the third time. 

Also placing within the National Centre for Diversity’s Top 100 Most Inclusive Employers last year, Oasis Academy Warndon have worked tirelessly over the last few years to ensure they provide a diverse, equal and inclusive environment for both students and staff. 

The Investors in Diversity for Schools Award, developed by the National Centre for Diversity, is a nationally recognised accreditation that assess a school’s culture and practices across Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE). As part of the reaccreditation process, 59 members of staff at Oasis Academy Warndon completed a detailed diagnostic survey. The results were exceptional: 

  • 100% of staff agreed the school fosters good relations across all communities 

  • 98.3% said they feel listened to and valued 

  • 97–100% agreed FREDIE is deeply embedded into curriculum planning and delivery 

  • 100% said the school is committed to preventing discrimination and advancing equality 

The assessor’s report praised the academy for maintaining a ‘inclusive, supportive culture’ and highlighted how confidently staff embed FREDIE into teaching practice. Recommendations for continuous development were welcomed by the academy team as they build on this strong foundation. 

The award also recognised Oasis Academy Warndon’s ongoing commitment to providing an inclusive education for all pupils. The academy ensures its curriculum reflects the needs of its pupils, helping them grow into moral, purposeful and hopeful global citizens. 

Celebrating the accolade, Suzanne Owen, Principal at Oasis Academy Warndon, said: “We’ve continued to ensure inclusion is a key focus since we achieved the award initially in 2019. We pride ourselves on our academy community’s evolving approach to diversity and equality. Our bespoke curriculum ensures our pupils develop into moral, purposeful and hopeful global citizens, ready to make a difference in the world. A fantastic ambassador for this, has been our Equality and Diversity Lead, who continuously introducing innovative approaches to ensure deep learning and understanding.” 

Oasis Academy Warndon’s equality and inclusion targets for this academic year includes; promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through all appropriate curricular opportunities, with particular reference to issues of equality and diversity. 

Lucy Thomas, Equality and Diversity Lead at Oasis Academy Warndon, added: “We’ve all worked extremely hard as members of staff to create an inclusive climate which reflect our ethos accurately. Everybody who works in our academy act as role-models for the children by modelling positive behaviours such as compassion and acceptance. Teaching staff, subject leaders and senior leaders have been able to embed equality, diversity and inclusion deep into our curriculum to provide all children with learning opportunities, which address issues surrounding fair treatment while promoting an inclusive approach. It’s brilliant to know that our hard work and efforts have been recognised!”
