Oasis Academy Warndon showcase Breakfast Club success to local MP

Oasis Academy Warndon on Edgeworth Close recently welcomed Worcester MP Tom Collins to see first-hand the impact of its successful free Breakfast Club, delivered with support from the Government’s wider Best Start initiative to support children and families.

As an early adopter of the Government’s national rollout, Oasis Academy Warndon is among the schools piloting the expanded Breakfast Club programme, backed by additional government support. The academy has been offering a free daily Breakfast Club to all pupils from Reception to Year 6 for over a year, helping ensure children begin the school day ready to learn.

Each morning, pupils can access a healthy and varied breakfast including toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and juice. Following this, they can take part in a range of enriching activities, from sports and creative play to social time with friends. This creates a calm, positive start to the day.

The provision reflects Oasis’s wider commitment to supporting the whole child, recognising that children learn best when their physical, social and emotional needs are met alongside their academic development. By providing a safe, welcoming space to eat, connect and play, the Breakfast Club helps pupils feel settled, supported and ready to engage in learning.

During the visit, Tom Collins met with pupils and staff, spoke about his role as an MP, and heard directly from children about how the Breakfast Club supports them.

Oasis Academy Warndon was an early adopter of the Governments new scheme ahead of the wider national roll out, and it’s clear the programme is really appreciated by pupils and parents alike. Giving children a chance to start the day with a decent meal and a fun space really helps them to learn, thrive and grow.”

The breakfast club at Oasis Academy Warndon is one of more than 500 new clubs being supported nationally by the government’s manifesto commitment to ensure every state funded school with primary-aged pupils in England can offer a free breakfast club open to all students.
