A local primary academy has impressed inspectors and has shown to provide “an excellent education which develops character and promotes a love of learning”, the inspection by Ofsted has found.

This amazing report is a credit to Principal Emily Hobson and her fantastic team of staff and reflects the hard work and dedication that they all show daily.

Pupils and staff at Oasis Academy Warndon are celebrating after achieving a great outcome from Ofsted in a recent visit, with inspectors saying there is enough evidence to suggest the school could be ‘outstanding’ had it been a full inspection.

Throughout the report, inspectors highlighted the improved performance over the past few years and gave pupils a glowing write-up.

Highlights from the report include;

  • “Leaders are ambitious, thoughtful and have high expectations of pupils.”
  • “Everyone feels valued and is able to succeed. Pupils work hard in lessons and behaviour around school is excellent.”
  • “Pupils get off to a good start in early years and make excellent progress during their time at school.”
  • “Most able pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well catered for. Pupils have many opportunities to stretch their minds and abilities.”
  • “Pupils are proud of their school and describe it as an amazing place where they have a fun education.”

In the report, addressed to Principal Emily Hobson, it praises her and the team at Oasis Academy Warndon for bringing out the best in everyone and working to a high standard allowing pupils to excel.

Emily Hobson, Principal at Oasis Academy Warndon, said; “We are thrilled that the hard work from staff, pupils and our community has been recognised and we are immensely proud of our academy and community hub.”

“As well as having the highest academic aspirations for out pupils, we are determined that our bespoke Character Curriculum enables them to develop into respectful, articulate and well-rounded young citizens. The report shows what an impact this is having, and we look forward to building on this further and confirm an ‘outstanding’ judgement in the next visit.”

The academy has been carefully designing their curriculum for the past three years with the deliberate intention of enabling the children to develop the right mixture of skills and knowledge.

It is a cross-curricular approach to teaching, using high levels of creativity and self-reflection; opportunities to make long-lasting memories and celebrate children’s successes. The intention is the children become experts in their own character – a ‘Character Crackerjack’ - which, along with significantly higher than average academic outcomes, gives them the basis to reach their potential in whatever future they choose.

The report clearly shows how highly parents think of the school and said “Parents value the school and say good things about the academy to describe what it provides for their children. They say their children are happy to attend the school and that the school makes sure they are well behaved. One parent commented ‘my child has, from day one, felt safe and secure at this school and feels able to communicate any problems to the teacher which are dealt with appropriately.”

Paul Tarry, Regional Director for the Midlands at Oasis Community Learning, added “This amazing report is a credit to Principal Emily Hobson and her fantastic team of staff and reflects the hard work and dedication that they all show daily. I am confident that Oasis Academy Warndon will continue to go from strength to strength.”

This is the first short inspection since the school was judged to be good in June 2015. The next inspection by the education watchdog will be a full inspection which could change the overall rating.

The academy has already held open days for 2020 Reception places but is still taking individual tour bookings, which can be booked by phone or email.
