A Worcester primary school is celebrating after striking gold for sporting success.

Oasis Academy Warndon, situated on the periphery of Worcester City and serving the community of Warndon has achieved the Gold Quality Mark from the Youth Sport Trust.

The Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark is online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised badge of excellence for PE and school sport. The tool supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for their development plan.

The tool has been aligned to Ofsted guidance supporting the PE and Sport Premium and comprises a series of benchmarking statements, including the quality of PE, and the quality of school sport.

In the report, addressed to Luke Kitchen, leader of PE at Oasis Academy Warndon, the opening paragraph reads; “Oasis Academy Warndon has a positive culture where PE, Sport and physical activity play an important role in achieving wider school outcomes, behaviour and attainment improvements.”

Last year, the academy had a range of incredible successes in sport, including; improved outcomes for pupils in curricular PE and swimming, selected by Worcester Warriors to be their representative team in the tag rugby festival that took place at Twickenham ahead of the Premiership Grand Final last year, and school games finals representatives in Tag rugby (Year 6) and silver medallists in Year 4 Tri-golf.

The report goes on to say; “The school has a health and character development focus in their curriculum, and through a programme called SELF, the whole school focuses on wider health and wellbeing outcomes through the children being physically active throughout the day. Parental engagement and influencing the home forms an important part of what the school is looking to achieve.”

“This recognises our commitment to delivering the best possible sporting experiences for the young people at our school.”

Schools are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold status, which reflect efforts in using PE and sport to raise achievement.

The Youth Sport Trust, added; “Congratulations to Oasis Academy Warndon for achieving the Youth Sport Trust Gold Quality Mark.”

“Schools that achieve the Quality Mark share our belief in the value of high quality PE and sport and the positive impact it has on young people’s journey through education.”

“PE and school sport helps young people to live healthy and active lives and helps them achieve their personal best in school and life.”
