We are delighted to share that Oasis Community Learning has been shortlisted for the ‘Pupil Mental Health Initiative of the Year’ category in the Tes Schools Awards 2023.

OCL’s Mental Health Lead for National Education, Erin Docherty, has developed a ‘Mental Health Impact Triage Matrix,’ which has been shortlisted and identified by TES as an impressive initiative for supporting students with mental health.

The ‘Mental Health Impact Triage Matrix’ allows teaching and support staff to be well-placed to observe and support children day-to-day, allowing them to identify behaviour suggesting that they may be experiencing issues that impact on their emotional health and well-being.

Across the family, Oasis academies prioritise the health and wellbeing of our young people. Where pupils have suffered a potentially traumatic adverse childhood experience, this can have a lasting impact throughout childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.

The Tes School Awards are an opportunity for outstanding educational establishments and people within the field of education to be recognised for their exceptional practice and positive impact on children’s lives. The ceremony, taking place on Friday 23rd June in London, is heralded as one of the most important events for education acknowledgement in the sector, and celebrates 20 categories for nomination.

Jon Needham, National Director of Safeguarding & Mental Health for OCL has commented: “I am really pleased that Erin’s work has been acknowledged. The ‘Mental Health Impact Triage Matrix’ is an effective approach which recognises and addresses specific levels of concerns, impacts on behaviour, learning and attendance, as well as risks to one-self and others. We are immensely proud of this nomination.”

John Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of OCL also congratulated Erin Docherty on this nomination: “Erin has contributed and committed a massive deal towards the mental well-being of our young people. The ‘Mental Health Impact Triage Matrix’ calls for everyone who works at one of our academies to advocate for the child and ensure that their voice is heard, their needs are met and wherever possible services for the whole family are coordinated.”

“We are thrilled to have been recognised at the TES Awards this year and look forward to celebrating this nomination as a family.”
