Oasis students inspire His Majesty King Charles at Grimsby’s Horizon Youth Zone

Students from Oasis were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a landmark moment for Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, as they joined the visit of His Majesty King Charles III to Horizon Youth Zone this week.  

Oasis Academies Wintringham, Immingham and Nunsthorpe all joined to wave and curtsey to The King. Oasis’s involvement was encouraged by Regional Director for North East Secondary and trustee at Horizon. Heidi’s dual role reflects Oasis’ deep commitment to local partnerships, bringing together education, community organisations and youth provision to create lasting impact. 

The incredibly special, Royal visit highlighted the strength of community partnerships and the importance of investing in young people and their futures. It was a fantastic chance to spotlight Horizon Youth Zone - a vital new addition to the region.  

Horizon provides a safe, inclusive and inspiring space for young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs. Thousands of young people across Grimsby, including many students from Oasis benefit from the zone, which is open seven days a week, and offers more than 20 activities each evening for just 50p per visit. 

At Horizon Youth Zone, His Majesty spent time with our young students, hearing about the wide range of after-school activities designed to build confidence, develop social skills and support their personal growth.  

During his visit, The King toured the state-of-the-art facilities and spoke directly with our pupils about their experiences and aspirations, recognising the positive impact the Youth Zone is already having across the community.  

Alli Kent, student from Oasis Academy Wintringham shared:

"I was very lucky and met King Charles III when he visited Grimsby on Thursday.  He spoke to me and asked me what I was doing today – I told him I was playing badminton.  I said I enjoy badminton and I am good at it and that I play at a local club that is based at Oasis Academy Wintringham.  He said he used to play it too.  He then said he was impressed and that I should keep going with it.  He was quietly spoken and I felt so privileged to have met him."

For Oasis students, this was more than a royal engagement, it was a moment of recognition. It offered a chance to see their community celebrated, to feel proud of where they come from, and to witness first-hand how investment in young people can transform lives. 

At Oasis, we are committed to creating strong, inclusive communities where every child and young person can thrive. This moment brought our vision to life - demonstrating what is possible when we work together with shared purpose, compassion and belief in every young person’s potential. 

Horizon Youth Zone shares this ambition, helping young people discover their passion and purpose, build confidence and develop skills for life.  

Our students returned from the visit inspired, energised and proud, taking with them not just memories of an extraordinary day - described by some as a truly memorable moment - but a renewed sense of possibility for their future.
