A local primary school situated in the heart of Winson Green, Birmingham is celebrating after receiving the news that they have been awarded the Platinum School Games Mark.

Oasis Academy Foundry have earned the School Games Platinum Award in recognition for the development of physical education, school sport and competition across their school and into the community.

The School Games, which is funded by Sport England National Lottery funding and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, is a government led programme designed to deliver competitive school sport to all young people.

The platinum award celebrates maintaining consistently high standards with school sport provision and Oasis Academy Foundry have held the gold standard over the past three years.

Emma Johnson, Executive Principal at Oasis Academy Foundry, commented on the school’s success, saying; “At Oasis Academy Foundry we deliver, we promote and inspire high quality educational sport provision in our school, and we are delighted to have been officially recognised for this by the School Games Mark.”

“I am extremely proud of our pupils and staff for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. We look forward to applying once again in 2020.”

To gain the platinum mark this year schools must have successfully held a gold award during the academic years 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18 consecutively and achieve gold during 2018/19 as well demonstrating the school’s achievements through case study evidence.

The evidence must have been in one of either; how pupils have been involved in the planning and delivering the competition offer, how the school supports exit routes for young people into community activities, or how has the school demonstrated a holistic whole school approach to delivering physical activity in line with the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) recommendation of a minimum of 60 active minutes a day.

School Games Mark, added; “We are very pleased that Oasis Academy Foundry have been awarded Platinum this year – the highest school games Sport Mark Award possible.”

“This shows the hard work and dedication the school have put in over the years to ensure they are offering high quality PE and School Sport giving all pupils the opportunities to be active as much as possible. This is a fantastic achievement and well deserved.”
