Devastated by the news of the earthquakes that recently hit Turkey and Syria, a local school in Sheffield came together and raised money for the appeal.

As part of compassionate month, one out of the 9 habits our schools follow, the whole Academy looked at how damaging the earthquake was for people living in Turkey and Syria.

The pupils realised there are people who have suffered the loss of family members, children who have been orphaned, and parts of the countries lack of access to food and clean water. The whole school pulled together to fundraise and make every penny count to supporting the people of Turkey and Syria.

Senior Learning Mentor, Mr R Hassan, who led on the fundraising said: “The pupils showed empathy and were determined to help.”

Classes stuck pennies on sheets of cardboard to display and be proud of how much money their class raised.

A group of children “Oasis Splash and Dash Team” washed the teachers’ cars to further raise the total.

Oasis Academy Fir Vale proudly announce that they raised a grand total of £843.00 which will be donated to the families in Turkey and Syria, through Islamic Relief.

Principal of Oasis Academy Fir Vale, Helen Round said: “It is deeply saddening to learn about the unfortunate events that have occurred in Turkey and Syria. We believe it is important to teach our pupils to be compassionate from a young age, in order to learn how important it is to play a part in bringing transformation globally."

"We are so proud that our pupils took this fundraiser seriously and understand what it means to be compassionate.”
