Team GB gymnast Courtney Tulloch excites primary pupils in Surrey with jumps and somersaults
Oasis Academy Byron recently had the pleasure of inviting international artistic gymnast, Courtney Tulloch, after having raised funds for ‘Sports for Champions UK.’
The successful visit consisted of Courtney Tulloch inspiring the pupils, talking about his journey as a gymnast and to lead a fitness circuit with the pupils in the afternoon.
Courtney spoke to the pupils in an assembly in the morning, about his path to becoming a medal winning gymnast and described how he had started off at a young age, which was then followed by a ‘question and answer’ session.
During the assembly, Courtney brought his medals in and allowed the pupils to have a close look at them, as well as sharing the stories of how he received the medals.
“I went to my first commonwealth games in Australia, and I came away with a medal, which means so much to me, because it gave me that confidence to believe in myself, that if I work hard enough and surround myself with the right people, then anything is possible.”
The 27-year-old gymnast went on to show off his gymnastic skills to the pupils by performing some jumps and somersaults, as well as a few demonstrations where he leapt over some of the teachers; the cheers in the room from the pupils were incredible as they were impressed and pleasantly surprised to see the gymnast in action.
This was followed by each year group taking part in a fitness circuit with Courtney, which all the pupils participated in with full enthusiasm.
The pupils of Oasis Academy Byron, along with the support of their families, raised an amazing £2,360, which will be shared by the school and the Sports for Champions fund, who arranged the event.
Principal of Oasis Academy Byron, Joanna Poplett, said: “It has been a truly inspirational day for our pupils and staff, we have been eagerly waiting for this opportunity and are so honoured to have hosted Courtney Tulloch at our academy.”
“The pupils were so excited to meet Courtney, especially having done fantastically well raising a significant amount for Sports for Champions.”
