Keeping Young People Safe Online
Keeping Young People Safe Online

In today's digital age, safeguarding young people online is more important than ever. At Oasis, we prioritise e-safety in our computing, personal development and PSHE curriculums, ensuring that our students gain the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.

Our primary curriculum covers essential topics such as identifying personal information, safe online communication, recognising safe and unsafe websites, age-appropriate content, and data privacy. Also, each year, our primary academies take part in Safer Internet Day, where students learn about cyberbullying, privacy, and appropriate online behaviour.

In our secondary academies, students explore topics such as online friendships, privacy, fake news, cyberbullying, cybersecurity, automated cybercrime, and the impact of technology, including data protection laws and ethical issues.

To support our commitment to e-safety, here are some practical reminders to ensure a safe online environment:

For Students:

  • Always keep personal information private. Never share your full name, address, or phone number online.
  • Be mindful of your online behaviour. Treat others with respect and report any bullying to a trusted adult.
  • Create strong passwords and never share them with anyone.
  • Think before you click! Be cautious of unknown links or messages.

For Staff:

  • Regularly review and update e-safety policies and procedures.
  • Incorporate e-safety discussions into various subjects to reinforce learning.

For Parents:

  • Talk to your child about their online activities and the importance of privacy.
  • Set clear rules for internet use at home, including time limits and approved websites.
  • Monitor your child’s online presence and encourage them to share their experiences.

Together, we can create a safe online environment for young people, empowering them to explore the digital world responsibly. We believe that a strong focus on e-safety not only protects our students but also helps them develop essential skills for their future. By creating a sense of awareness and responsibility, we are equipping our students to navigate online challenges confidently and positively.
