Silvertown’s Young Writers Shine in National Spotlight
Silvertown’s Young Writers Shine in National Spotlight

At Oasis Academy Silvertown we are proud to celebrate the creative talents of our students and provide them with exciting opportunities to explore the world through writing and poetry.

Last term, several pieces of work by our Key Stage 3 students were entered into the Young Writers: The Beautiful Truth, a national competition open to schools across the country. While our students did not place among the overall winners, we are delighted to share that almost all who entered were selected to have their work published in The Beautiful Truth anthology. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the creativity, effort and courage our students demonstrated through their writing.

To mark the occasion, a celebration was held during the academy’s weekly Creative Writing Club, where students proudly shared their work and reflected on their experiences. The success was also featured in the academy’s parent newsletter, recognising the hard work and dedication of all those involved.

Although The Beautiful Truth anthology is not available to view online, it can be ordered by staff and parents, allowing families and supporters to own a lasting keepsake of this special achievement.

With excitement growing, the next group of aspiring writers has already been recruited to take part in Young Writers’ upcoming competition, and the creative energy continues to flourish.

In addition to external competitions, the academy also hosted its own Poetry By Heart contest for Key Stage 3 students. After participating in coaching sessions, students memorised and recorded poetry recitations, submitting entries to the Poetry By Heart Foundation. Those shortlisted will be invited to perform at the national finals, with the chance to win a trip to the iconic Globe Theatre in London, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Shakespeare’s world first-hand.

To further nurture a love for language and self-expression, Oasis Academy Silvertown’s Creative Writing Club runs every Friday, offering a safe and supportive environment where students explore various genres, develop their skills, and grow in confidence as writers.

Join us as we wish our students at Oasis Academy Silvertown the best of luck as they continue their creative journeys. With the opportunities provided, they are well on their way to becoming the next generation of writers, poets, and storytellers.
