Eco Schools, Count Your Carbon and The Playground

• Eco Schools is an external accreditation and recognition scheme for schools taking environmental action, through which they are awarded a Green Flag. It provides a seven-step structure to follow throughout the academic year but also the freedom to tailor the actions to each school setting, people and needs.
• Count Your Carbon was created by Eco Schools to measure your carbon footprint in a user-friendly online tool, which then recommends changes based on this.
• The Playground takes your carbon footprint into an interactive classroom setting allowing pupils to discuss changes you could take and the impact this would have, providing learning then a democratic decision-making process to come to a collective agreement.

National Education Nature Park 

The National Education Nature Park is a free programme for schools, nurseries and colleges across England, empowering children and young people to make a positive difference to both their own and nature's future. It guides educators and learners through a five-step process to transform their school grounds for both people and wildlife, from installing green walls and digging ponds, to growing pollinator-friendly plants and building bug hotels.

The programme gives children and young people the opportunity to lead the way in mapping, monitoring and enhancing their learning sites for nature, with the collective goal of forming a vast network of green spaces across England that contribute to nature recovery.

Climate Ambassadors 

The Climate Ambassadors Programme is a free initiative supporting nurseries, schools and colleges across England in developing and delivering Climate Action Plans. Led by a consortium originally developed by the University of Reading and STEM Learning, it recruits volunteer Climate Ambassadors from universities, the public and private sectors, charities and government, and matches them with education settings to provide expert guidance.

It sits alongside the National Education Nature Park as one of several sister programmes within the DfE's broader Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy.

Our own

To help with the DfE requirement that all schools in England have a Climate Action Plan we provided all of our academies with a Climate Action Plan Template. This outlines over 100 possible actions for their plan, ranging from short to long term, low to high impact, low to higher cost and cover the four DfE priority areas (Decarbonisation, Biodiversity, Adaption and Resilience, Climate Education and Green Careers).
